My Story

My private practice work began in a traditional, brick and mortar psychotherapy office in Fairfax, Virginia. Here I found clients struggled with traffic, parking, carving out time for sessions, finding childcare, and other logistical challenges created by the in person format. At the same time, I was providing telehealth services with a major hospital system. I began to see the benefits of telehealth, and chose a new path.

I developed my entirely online private practice in January of 2017 with the goal of providing convenient, low barrier therapy services to my clients. Since the launch of my small shop, my practice and license coverage has grown to include 5 states and is now Coastline Counseling. I had personally worried about connecting with clients through the telehealth screen, however have found it to be a surprisingly intimate window into your world. I have seen homes, family members, pets, and other personal aspects of life that would have not been possible within the walls of my old office.

I provide psychotherapy services to adolescents, adults, and seniors struggling with a variety of challenges. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, addiction, and life transitions or big adjustments. I do not provide couples or family counseling, however do facilitate occasional family or couples sessions where it is clinically appropriate.

I develop an individualized treatment approach for each client, and utilize interventions informed by CBT, DBT, MBSR, and others (learn more about these acronyms and my therapeutic style on the "Practice Details" page). Sessions with me focus on problems and goals you identify, and often include specific take home tasks to encourage change and integrate concepts into daily living.

Prior to launching my practice, I provided quality care in a variety of settings for over 10 years. I worked in inpatient psychiatric units, inpatient detox units, emergency rooms, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and individual outpatient therapy programs. My vast experience with mental health and substance abuse at many different levels of care gives me unique experience and a deep understanding of treatment options.

I completed my Bachelor of Social Work in 2010 and my Master of Social Work in 2011, both at Loyola University Chicago. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and currently hold active licenses to practice in Virginia, Pennsylvania, California, Florida, and Washington D.C. Licensing details are available on the "practice details" page.
